NearVisions CK

Presbyopia (near sightedness) impacts most people by the age of 40 and by age 50 it affects virtually everyone. The condition is caused when the lens becomes thicker and stiffer with age.

NearVision CK is the only technology approved by the FDA for improving near vision in baby boomer patients. CK reshapes the cornea by using a thin probe (smaller than a human hair) to apply radiofrequency energy in a circular pattern around the cornea. Topical drops are applied and no other anesthetic is needed. Considered pain free, the procedure takes about three minutes in the Dr. Betz's office and patients can typically resume their normal lifestyle the following day; no eye patches are needed.

CK can usually eliminate the need for reading glasses - 98 percent of patients are able to read the newspaper without glasses following the procedure. Some people who have intensive reading tasks—lawyers or accountants, for example—may still occasionally need eye wear.

Potential candidates for CK should be at least 40 years of age, have good distance vision and their eyes must be stable with no medical problems. Patients are carefully evaluated before and after the procedure. Please note that, depending on their specific conditions, some patients may be better suited to have their vision corrected by LASIK surgery. This type of surgery can be arranged by Betz Ophthalmology Associates; Dr. Betz will discuss LASIK options in these cases.

Dr. Betz was the first eye specialist in the area to offer this exciting technology. Free seminars are available—contact us for more information.

"Dealing with paperwork and the cash register are a big part of my business. I was constantly fiddling with my reading glasses. CK seemed like a safer alternative than Lasik, and I am very pleased…no more glasses!" – Steve Marcinek, Shamokin
